East student to compete in World Chess Championship!

chess players at long competition tableMichael Zheng, East Middle School seventh grade student, was selected by US Chess Federation for the USA team to compete at the November 2018 World Cadet Chess Championship in Spain. Michael is one of the top junior chess players in USA and will compete with junior chess players from more than 150 countries.Middle School

The World Cadet Chess Championship consists of 11 rounds of game competition where each round could take 5-7 hours. It is truly tough competition requiring all aspects from chess talent to mind, physical etc. The event presents an opportunity for players from each country to exchange culture and friendship in addition to chess. Michael is proud to represent the USA, Michigan, P-CCS and East Middle School!

Michael is the 2018 National K-6 Blitz co-champion and 2018 Michigan K-8 champion. This summer he represented Michigan in the prestigious 2018 Barber K-8 chess championship and won sixth place. On Labor Day weekend, he took second place in the 2018 Michigan Speed Chess Championship!
