Derek SouthwickWhen it comes to students, Derek Southwick always has been generous with his time. From staying after class to help a struggling student as a teacher, or working endless hours during homecoming week when he was Salem’s Student Activities Director to overseeing capstone projects for senior students in the Arts Academy, students come first with him. That’s a great approach for an educator, and that's why he was the perfect choice as the new assistant principal at Salem High School. In his new role, Southwick will be responsible for students with last names from P to Z and will oversee the social studies department.

Southwick has been a valuable team member at P-CEP since 2011 when he was hired as a teacher of social studies, economics, civics, world history and leadership. In 2015, he also took on the role of Student Activities Director and acted as Salem's Leadership trainer and coach for student leaders. Before coming to P-CEP, Southwick was a teacher at Metro Baptist School in Bellville. He also spent several years as the Vice President of Marketing and Investment for Strategies for StraitGate Financial.

Southwick earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and his Post-baccalaureate Teaching Certificate from Eastern Michigan University. His Master’s Degree in Educational Technology, is from Boise State University.

Please join us in congratulating Derek Southwick on his promotion.
