Assessment is one of several important ways staff obtain information about student academic needs.

In Michigan, 3rd - 5th grade students take the M-STEP assessment in the spring.  The M-STEP replaced the MEAP test in 2015.  The M-STEP is a summative assessment administered via computer.

3rd - Mathematics and English Language Arts

4th - Mathematics, English Language Arts and Science

5th - Mathematics, English Language Arts and Social Studies

One assessment administered to all elementary students across the district is the NWEA MPG/MAP assessment for math and reading.  This assessment is administered via computers or tablets in the fall, winter and spring.  The MPG/MAP assessment is adaptive, meaning that questions given are more or less difficult depending on the accuracy of previous questions answered.  This is one of several assessment tools used to check our students' reading levels.  As a result, some students will qualify or disqualify for intervention support.  Parents of students who are receiving intervention support will be notified of initiation or discontinuation of these services as we complete each assessment administration.

At the end of each quarter, benchmark assessments are administered in each of the core subject areas.  All of the assessments above as well as other classroom-based measures are used to monitor the students' progress.

Information about your child's progress will be shared at your child's conference in December.  Should you have questions in the meantime, please contact your child's teacher or Mrs. Jones at any time.
