P-CCS Students, Families, and Staff:

Student safety and well being remains the number one priority of Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. P-CCS is aware that the coronavirus, or COVID-19, is currently a major topic of discussion in our school community and beyond. We know the importance of providing accurate information and ongoing communication with you as we ensure safe and healthy learning environments for our students and staff. We want you to be aware of the work we are engaged in to be proactive and informed about this important topic.

While there are currently no reported cases of COVID-19 in Michigan, district leaders are monitoring the information being shared with us from local, state, and federal levels. We have recently completed significant work on our Emergency Operations Plans, and are making sure that we are prepared with best practices should any immediate health concerns arise at our school buildings or program locations.

P-CCS district maintenance and operations personnel have a very specific cleaning protocol that trained staff utilize for infectious diseases. Additionally, we own and operate several specialized sanitation machines that provide hospital-grade disinfection for our schools.

Our local health department, along with our district medical personnel, are strongly encouraging the following preventative recommendations for all illnesses that are spread via respiratory transmission, including COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.

  • Avoid touching your face, eyes and mouth.

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing. Throw the tissue away in the trash after using it. When a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your elbow.

  • Avoid sharing cups and utensils.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Stay home and focus on health when ill, allowing bodies to heal and get stronger. Absences due to illness are excused.

As a district, we will work with our staff to message the importance of being aware and proactive about utilizing these best practices with students in their classrooms. We will continue to follow protocols for citizens returning to the United States who have recently traveled to countries with large coronavirus outbreaks, as established by the Centers for Disease Control, the nation’s health protection agency. Additionally, we are currently reviewing any previously-approved out-of-country field trips on a case-by-case basis.

The Centers for Disease Control, is regularly updating the resources below with timely and factual information about COVID-19:

Also, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has this general fact sheet available to learn more about COVID-19:

We will continue to stay in communication with local health officials and will update the community with any relevant new information that is shared with us.

We are dedicated to making sure that our learning environments remain a safe and healthy place for all students and staff. Thank you for your continued support of P-CCS!
