Carmen JohnsonIf you asked Carmen Johnson’s colleagues to describe her, you would hear a variety of positive words and phrases. However, there is one word they all would agree best describes Workman Elementary’s new principal - - creative.

Creative doesn’t just describe this veteran leader’s physical skills, it also describes her as a thinker. As an educational leader, she believes she is empowered to promote the development of culturally responsive educational policies, practices and curricula that foster understanding, respect and appreciation for all learners. She loves working with children and works hard to make sure all are successful.

Carmen Johnson spent the first several years of her career as a middle and elementary school visual arts teacher with the Southfield, Waverly and Plymouth-Canton Community School districts. In 2011, she moved to Elizabethtown, Kentucky and spent the following five years as a visual arts teacher, behavioral specialist and assistant principal. She returned to Michigan in 2016 to serve as a students support coordinator for P-CCS before recently becoming Workman’s new principal.

Johnson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education from Western Michigan University, a Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning/Curriculum and Instruction from Nova Southeastern University and an Educational Specialist Degree from Oakland University.

Please join us in congratulating Carmen on her new position with P-CCS.
