Student Teaching at P-CCS

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools is committed to supporting future teachers in their education and training. Our goal is to ensure that the best possible candidates enter our district as student teachers and interns.

Placements will be approved based on the following criteria:

1. Availability of qualified staff/teacher(s) in requested areas;

2. Willingness of staff to take a student;

3. Outcome of student interview between administrator student, and perspective mentor.

Specific school or staff member requests are not accepted. Plymouth-Canton Community Schools reserves the right to deny placement without cause. Failure to follow this process could lead to rejection of a placement.

All applicants shall undergo an in-district interview with appropriate school district staff. The interview shall be conducted prior to a final agreement from the school district to accept the student teacher/intern applicant. Final approval rests with the Department of Human Resources. Applicant will receive written notice of approval and assignment from Abdul Madyun, Chief Human Resource Officer.  Written notice will also be sent to those who don’t receive a placement.

• Written letter from applicant’s advisor stating applicant’s requirements have been met
• Current transcript, indicating a GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Criminal History form completed.

Pre-student teaching/field experiences/observations are under the supervision of an experienced teacher. The college student observes classroom activities, assists the teacher with day-to-day classroom management tasks, interacts one-on-one with students in the classrooms, and instructs small groups.

• Written explanation of program expectations, including anticipated time required
• Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Criminal History form completed.

For Field Experience or Observations:

• Fall Term application window is September 1 to November 15  

• Winter Term application window is January 1 to March 1

For Student Teaching/Interns/Clinical Experience, as well as Administrative Field Experience

• Fall Term application window is March 1 to May 1

• Winter Term application window is August 1 to November 30
