29 P-CCS Students Named Semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Competition

29 P-CCS Students Named Semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Competition

CANTON, MI — 29 Plymouth-Canton Community Schools (P-CCS) seniors have earned recognition among the nation’s top high school students after being named Semifinalists in the 72nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

The students will now have the opportunity to advance in the competition for nearly $24 million in National Merit Scholarships to be awarded in spring and summer 2027.

The recognition continues a strong tradition of National Merit success at P-CEP. Last year, 10 P-CCS graduates earned scholarships through the program, the district’s highest total in recent memory.

Students qualified for the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program through their performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), with Semifinalists representing approximately the top one percent of over 1.2 million entries nationwide.0000000000000

To advance to Finalist standing, students must meet additional academic and program requirements. Candidates are evaluated based on their academic record, including the rigor of coursework and grades earned, as well as their leadership and participation in school and community activities. Each student also submits an essay and receives a recommendation from a school official.

“We are incredibly proud to see 29 P-CCS students earn this prestigious national recognition,” said Dr. Monica L. Merritt, P-CCS Superintendent of Schools. “Their success is the result of tremendous talent, hard work and determination, supported by educators who challenge and inspire students every day, and a powerful reflection of the academic excellence and exceptional opportunities available to students across our district.”
