East Middle School's Infinity Tech Robotics Team Makes History in Division Playoffs at 2026 FIRST World Championship

East Middle School Infinity Tech Robotics Team at 2026 FIRST World Championship Competition

Infinity Tech Robotics (FTC Team 13684) concluded a historic 2025-2026 season this weekend with a powerhouse performance at the FIRST World Championship in Houston. Representing the Plymouth-Canton Community School District, Infinity Tech became the first middle school team in the district’s history to advance to the global stage, ultimately securing their place as the Jackson Division Alliance 3 Captain in Division Playoffs.

Facing off against the top 336 teams selected from over 8,000 worldwide in this season’s Decode game, Infinity Tech demonstrated elite technical skill and strategic execution throughout the qualification rounds. The team finished the qualification phase with a phenomenal 9-1 record, earning the rank of 3rd overall in the prestigious Jackson Division. This ranking allowed them to move into the playoff phase as the Captain of Alliance 3.

World Championship Highlights:

  • Division Performance: As Alliance Captains, Infinity Tech led their partners through a rigorous playoff bracket, advancing to round 3 of the Jackson Division playoffs.

  • Elite Statistics: Over the course of the season, the team maintained an impressive 35-10-0 overall record, including a 24-3-0 record in qualification matches at regional, state, and world levels.

"This journey has been about more than just the robot; it's about the 'infinite stream of technologists' we are building for our community," said Business Mentor Cheryl Courson. "Becoming the first middle school team from our district to reach Worlds and then leading an alliance into the division finals is a testament to the hard work of our students, mentors, and the support of the Plymouth-Canton community."

Infinity Tech’s path to Houston was paved with a trail of accolades, including the 1st Place Inspire Award and Winning Alliance honors at the Royal Oak Qualifier, as well as the Innovate Award and Finalist Alliance titles at the Ann Arbor Qualifier. At the Michigan State Championship in December 2025, the team took home the 3rd Place Inspire Award and captained the Marie Curie Division Finalist Alliance, securing their 4th place overall state finish and World Championship advancement.

Beyond the competition field, Infinity Tech remains a pillar of STEM outreach in Michigan. Since 2022, the team has formed and mentored 17 new robotics teams (including FTC and FLL), helping the district thrive after the pandemic. With over 500 community service hours this year, the team continues to volunteer at food banks and host workshops for incoming 5th-grade students to ensure the future of local robotics remains bright.
