P-CEP Automotive CTE Program Receives Grant from Margaret Dunning Foundation

P-CEP AUTOMOTIVE CTE PROGRAM RECEIVES $45,000 GRANT FROM MARGARET DUNNING FOUNDATION

CANTON, MI — Plymouth-Canton Community Schools (P-CCS) is proud to announce that the Automotive Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at
Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (P-CEP) has received a generous $45,000 grant from the Margaret Dunning Foundation.

The grant will fund new, state-of-the-art equipment for the auto technician and auto body programs at Canton High School, enhancing hands-on learning opportunities and preparing students for in-demand careers in the automotive and manufacturing industries.

“Plymouth-Canton Community Schools is thankful for the continued support of our automotive programs by the Margaret Dunning Foundation,” P-CCS Superintendent Dr. Monica L. Merritt said. “This grant helps our program remain at the forefront of innovation and ensures that students are trained with industry-standard tools that prepare them for high-quality, financially rewarding careers.”

The grant will provide funding for several key equipment upgrades, including:

  • A new hoist, cameras, and microphone systems to improve instructional demonstrations using the program’s smart board technology
  • A nitrogen plastic welder to support repair of modern plastic vehicle components
  • Metal fabrication equipment to expand technical skill development
  • A hydraulic press to strengthen auto body training capabilities

“I am so appreciative of the Dunning Foundation for their generous grant to our auto program,” said Gerald Lickey, P-CCS Automotive Instructor and CTE Teacher Leader. “This funding allows us to continue finding innovative ways to enhance our students’ learning experience.”

A successful business leader and philanthropist active in Plymouth, Margaret Dunning established the foundation that bears her name in 1997. In addition to being an active civic booster, Dunning was also a classic car enthusiast and regularly participated in the annual Woodward Dream Cruise. Dunning died in 2015 at the age of 104, but her legacy lives on in the foundation’s work to support educational programs focused on the automobile and transportation industries.
