Plymouth-Canton Community Schools and orsa credit union unite to launch Orsa Hub

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools and orsa credit union unite to launch Orsa Hub

Partnership fuels a 25-year public–private partnership to invest in student potential, workforce readiness and Michigan’s future

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — A transformational partnership between orsa credit union (orsa), the credit union you knew as Community Financial, and Plymouth-Canton Community Schools (P-CCS) is bringing a long-held vision to life: a community-powered hub designed to expand opportunity, spark curiosity and prepare students for a rapidly changing world.

Leaders from both organizations gathered this week to formally sign the long-term agreement, marking a milestone rooted in collaboration, trust and a shared responsibility to Michigan’s next generation. The 25-year partnership includes a $5 million commitment from orsa credit union to support the creation and long-term sustainability of the Orsa Hub as a launchpad where students are encouraged to explore, experiment and build confidence to dream of impossibilities.

As part of the agreement, the expansion to the high school will carry the Orsa Hub name, signaling a long-term commitment to public education and to the Plymouth-Canton community, which orsa credit union has proudly called home for 75 years.

“With this partnership, this building is more than a state-of-the-art facility,” said Dr. Monica L. Merritt, Superintendent of P-CCS. “The Orsa Hub represents what is possible when private organizations and public education come together around a common purpose: expanding access, unlocking potential and building pathways for every learner to thrive.”

Located at Canton High School, the Orsa Hub serves as a dynamic ecosystem for exploration. Students will engage in robotics, artificial intelligence, digital storytelling, financial wellness, sustainability projects and design experiences within flexible, collaborative spaces. Guided by educators, expert mentors and strong ties to local industry, learners will apply ideas through immersive programs to foster leadership, curiosity and creativity across their K-12 journey.

“This partnership is a living expression of what we believe about people and possibility,” said Tansley Stearns, president & ceo of orsa. “For 75 years, we’ve been rooted in this community, walking alongside Michiganders as they pursue their impossible dreams. As the proud daughter of a public school educator, witnessing the power of partnerships and collaborations furthering the education of our children provides a blueprint to be replicated across our state. The Orsa Hub ensures students and educators have the tools, trust and support to lead boldly, today and for decades to come. This hub also bridges our rich history with schools around the state as we shape the future of financial wellness, co-creating with young adults.”

The partnership reflects shared priorities to ignite impact, including initiatives supporting girls in STEM through scholarships, robotics, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, mental health, staff benefits and student-centered programming. These efforts will welcome students, educators and community members into the hub, expanding learning beyond traditional classrooms and strengthening connections across the district.

P-CCS anticipates a soft launch and opening phase beginning in spring 2026, followed by district-wide implementation in fall 2026. The phased approach will expand access across schools, activate cross-district collaboration and invite community engagement through showcases and events.

The partners will continue shaping the hub as a sustained commitment to learners, educators and Michigan’s future workforce. As a district-wide resource, the Orsa Hub will invite K-12 students to pursue ideas,  test solutions and build skills with purpose and confidence. United by a shared vision, the partnership is a testament to what is possible when public education and cooperative finance come together to ignite potential for generations to come.
