Starkweather High School Educators Earn Statewide Recognition
PLYMOUTH, MI — Plymouth-Canton Community Schools (P-CCS) is proud to announce that two educators from Starkweather High School, Baljit Kaur and Stephanie McMaster, have received statewide honors from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity for their outstanding work with students.
McMaster, an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, received the “Up and Comer” Award, which recognizes emerging educators who demonstrate exceptional enthusiasm and classroom engagement. Her dedication to student success and commitment to innovative teaching practices were key factors in her selection.
Kaur, who serves as P-CCS’ Adult Education Supervisor, was honored with the Adult Education Unsung Hero Award. This award recognizes individuals whose dedication, reliability, and service—often behind the scenes—make a significant impact on students, staff, and program success. The selection committee highlighted Kaur’s leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to supporting learners.
“Our mission at P-CCS is to provide learners of all ages and ability levels with the high-quality education they deserve,” said Joseph Greene, Executive Director of High School Education for Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. “The efforts of Ms. Kaur, Ms. McMaster, and the entire Starkweather High School staff exemplify the very best of our district. I congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to their continued impact on our students.”
McMaster and Kaur were two of only four educators statewide to receive these honors this year. They will be formally recognized at the Michigan Adult Education and Training Conference Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, May 5, in Kalamazoo.
